The Law Offices of Schwartz | White is extremely focused on resolving your specific family law issues. Our attorneys have more than 50 years of combined experience successfully handling child custody, visitation and child support issues, and we strive always to put the children first in divorce. Because of our substantial experience in the family law courts, we can leverage our wealth of knowledge to give our clients an advantage in the courtroom or at the negotiation table, and we base our strategies during our clients’ cases upon that experience.
Florida child support guidelines
Florida Statute §61.30 contains the child support guidelines that are the foundation of the court’s decisions on the matter. Courts generally abide strictly by these guidelines but may deviate by plus or minus five percent or more after considering all relevant factors in a given case, including:
- Children’s special needs
- Children’s ages
- Children’s station in life
- Family’s standard of living
- Each parent’s status and ability
The court must present its reasons in a written statement if it varies more than five percent from the guideline calculations. If appropriate in our client’s case, we prepare to argue why less or more support should be ordered and present convincing evidence that the judge can rely upon in a written decision, which is required in the event of a deviation from the Florida Child Support Guidelines.
Other aspects of financial support
Child support is intended to divide the childrearing financial responsibilities equitably between the parents. These payments may cover such basic items as clothes, food, housing and standard care. In addition, we address other expenses parents may encounter while raising their children, including:
- Health insurance premiums
- Medical deductibles and unreimbursed medical costs
- Accommodations for children with special needs or disabilities
- Unusual medical and educational needs
- Private education or tutoring
- Sports, theater, music or other enrichment opportunities
- College funds
- Child care expenses
- Computers and technology
- Cell phones
The lawyers at the Law Offices of Schwartz | White negotiate terms that meet the needs of our clients and their children. We propose settlements that accommodate our clients’ unique situations and child custody arrangements.
