Can a Divorce Coach Make Your Divorce Less Stressful?

DistWoman3

You know you are desperate for money when you watch videos asking you to sign up for a training course to become a life coach all the way to the end.  Life coaching is a field where supply vastly exceeds demand; everyone wants to make easy money as a life coach, but no one ever seems to seek out the services of life coaches who are already in the business.  Based on this, you might be surprised when a family law attorney advises you to contact a divorce coach.  If divorce coach is a real job, why haven’t you heard of it before?  Are divorce coaches just for people who are extraordinarily rich or extraordinarily incompetent?  Divorce cases vary widely in their complexity, and people going through divorce vary in the support networks they have.  For help getting through your divorce in a strong financial position and with as little stress as possible, contact a Boca Raton divorce lawyer.

Is a Divorce Coach the Same Thing as a Divorce Concierge?

A divorce coach is not the same thing as a divorce concierge.  Divorce concierges are like personal assistants for people going through a divorce.  They help their clients schedule appointments with forensic accountants and organize their financial documents in preparation for those meetings.  Divorce concierges research travel tickets for their clients’ holiday parenting time.  They also listen empathetically when their clients talk about the stress of divorce and co-parenting, but this is not their primary task.

By contrast, divorce coaches’ main job is to be a confidante for people going through divorce.  The clients can and should talk to their divorce lawyers about their feelings and worries about their divorce case, but lawyers’ time is limited, and it is important to focus on goals and strategy with lawyers.  You can spend five minutes talking to your lawyer about how hard it was to spend Thanksgiving without your children, but then you have to get back to discussing the matters you will address at the next mediation session.  With a divorce coach, you can spend the entire session talking about how to cope with loneliness when your children spend weekends or holidays with your ex and about wearing a neutral expression when your children come back to you and talk about how awesome or how awful your ex’s new partner is.

Are Divorce Coaches Just for Rich People?

Some divorce coaches have a professional background in mental health counseling, but there is less bureaucratic red tape to get through before you can see one, and you don’t have to wait for approval through your health insurance.  Talking to a divorce coach is a better option than sharing all your feelings with family and friends, because divorce coaches don’t give you guilt trips, Schadenfreude, or unsolicited advice.
